Natural gas and oil mining is the main source of revenue for the country. The economy of the country largely depends on these two fields. Brunei exports large quantity of oil and liquid natural gas to Japan Korea, Australia and other countries. Mining in Brunei is mainly related with the production of crude oil and natural gas. Initially, many non fuel minerals like carbonate rocks, coal, sand, kaolin, and gravel were abundant in Brunei. Tutong district of Brunei houses large reserves of silica which has led into the establishment of silica- processing plant.
Seria Field in Brunei is a giant producer of oil energy in Brunei. Presently, BLNG produces more than 6.7 million tons liquefied natural gas annually. The Brunei LNG along with Mitsubishi, Shell and the government of Brunei produces liquefied natural gas which in turn earns a lot of revenue for the country. Brunei Shell Petroleum or BSP is considered to be the largest oil mining company of the country. Jasra -Elf oil company in Brunei which has been producing hydro-carbons since its inception.
The oil reserves in Brunei consists of 1.4 billion barrel oil and also produces 191,000 barrel on a daily bases. In 1979, Brunei made a record in oil production which gone up to 240,000 bbl\d. It has many offshore fields, which includes Champion, South -West Ampa, Magpie, Gannet and others which accounts for a huge production of oil. Mining in Brunei also helps in employment of the youths of the country.
