Britain Society and Culture



Britain society and culture have passed through various phases of evolution. Even now, it is not possible to homogenize the cultural aspects of Britain in a single category. Modern Britain is an extremely multi-ethnic society, and the cultural practices change on the basis of ethnicity and region. However, irrespective of their origin, all forms of the British culture carry with them a rich history and great social significance. Another important aspect, is the way mos people of Britain are not only aware but proud of their cultural heritage.

Britain Culture

Britain culture encompasses all spheres of the county's life ranging from dress code, eating habits, behavior and etiquette to generally followed manners, as well as festivals celebrated and the day-to-day conduct of the people.

The eating habits of British are varied. However, despite regional and cultural disparities a few common benchmarks can be delineated. Usually, British people are fond of good food and they love to eat Italian, Indian and Chinese dishes. However, a love for tea is almost a common trait among all British people.

The British are known for their punctuality. The people of Britain are very conscious of time and they are very particular about reaching an appointment on time. Being late for an appointment is considered as impolite in Britain.

English is the main language in Britain. People are supposed to wish ‘Good Morning’ or ‘Good Evening’ as a symbol of showing respect. ‘Hello’ or ‘Hi’ can also be used to greet somebody.

British are also very particular about the way they dress. The citizens always dress according to the occasion. Blazer, coat, tie and trousers are specially worn on formal occasions. During informal occasions people wear variety of colorful dresses.

Britain Society and Culture has influenced many of its colonies. Britain’s colonies have retained much of the culture and customs of their colonizer.
