Britain Rivers



Britain Rivers are many in number and many of them flow through some of the most picturesque regions of the country. A number of important cities of Britain have also developed along the river banks. Most of the rivers in Britain are connected together by an extensive Canal network, making almost the entire country open to navigation. The Britain Rivers form fertile deltas at various parts of the country. Some of the most important rivers in Britain include Avon, Cam, Dove, Nidd, Severn, and Thames. Severn is the longest among all the rivers that flow through Britain.

Some other famous Britain rivers include Shannon, Tay, Tees, Calder, Coquet, Derwent, Great Ouse, Manifold, Mersey, Tawe, Taf, Teme, Teign, Trent,Tyne, Ure, and Wye.

Avon

River Avon, alternatively called Upper Avon or Warwickshire Avon, is a river in southern England with an overall length of 154 km. It flows through Warwick and Evesham before falling into the River Severn near Gloucestershire. The tributaries of River Avon include Ebble, Nadder, Wylye and Bourne.

Bure

River Bure runs through Norfolk in England. It meets the River Yare at Yarmouth. The two tributaries of River Bure include River Ant and the River Thurne. The total length of the River Bure is 80 km.

Cam

The River Cam flows through Southeast England and is a tributary of the River Great Ouse. In earlier days, it was called the Granta. The two main tributaries of the River Cam include the Granta and the Rhee.

Dove

The river Dove flows through Derbyshire in England. It is a tributary of the River Trent with a total length of 65 km. The river Dove rises on Axe Edge.

Nidd

Nidd is a river in North Yorkshire, England. It is a tributary of River Ouse in the North Yorkshire. The banks of this river feature spectacular natural beauty.

Severn

The River Severn is the longest river in Britain. The main towns on its course include Worcester, Shrewsbury and Gloucester. England and South Wales are connected by the way of road bridges crossing the River Severn. The tributaries of the River Severn include Stour, Teme, Avon,Vyrnwy, Wye and Tern. The total length of the River Severn is 336 km. There is also a rail-tunnel that connects England with South Wales by crossing through the Severn.

Thames

Thames is the most famous river in Britain. This river in South England flows through a number of major cities including London, Oxford, Windsor and Reading. The total length of Thames is 346 km. The principal tributaries of the River Thames include Windrush, Evenlode, Thame, Lea, Kennet, Wey, Mole and Medway. The chief tunnels under the River Thames include The Thames Tunnel, Blackwall Tunnel, the Rotherhithe Tunnel and Dartford tunnel.
