Queen Elizabeth II is the present British monarch of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. She is also the Head of Commonwealth. Buckingham Palace in London is the official residence of the Queen. She was born to Albert, Duke York and his wife formerly Lady Elizabeth Bowes – Lyon on April 21, 1926 and became the British monarch in 1952, following the death of her father, George VI. She has been reigning successfully for a long period of about 55 years now.
Queen Elizabeth II succeeded the throne as the Queen of England after her uncle Edward VIII abdicated, and her father George VI became the King. After him, she was the heir apparent to the throne. In 1947 Queen Elizabeth II of England married Philip Mountbatten, her distant cousin. Queen Elizabeth II had four children who were Annie, Andrew, Edward and Prince Charles (The Prince of Wales). Throughout, her education has been within confines of the palace. She joined the war effort and served the British social security as a driver in the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service. She has also been very supportive of Britain's transformation from an Empire to a Commonwealth country. According to her, this change came as a “beneficial and civilized metamorphosis”. Queen Elizabeth II has been a capable administrator, and has discharged her royal duties with diligence, candor and grace.
The exceptionally long reign of Queen Elizabeth II, England will be remembered proudly by the British people as a bright spot in the country's history
