Britain Flag is the national pride of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the Northern Ireland. The national flag of Britain represents the freedom, power and strength of Britain and of the British people. British flag is also referred as the Flag of the UK, or the Union Flag.
Britain Flag is frequently known by the name Union Jack. The origin of this popular moniker is unknown; it may have a naval origin, as shipmen often referred to the flag flown on the bowsprit of a ship as the 'Jack'. According to some, it takes its origin from the name of James I, during whose reign the flag was flown for the first time, following the Unification of the Kingdoms of Scotland and England.
The Wales flag has a dragon, the Welsh dragon. It however, does not feature on the British flag, because Wales is not a kingdom but a Principality.
Britain Flag has a very unique and distinctive feature, which makes it different from the national flags of other countries. The flag of Britain is a combination of the three following flags:
- Flag of England: The traditional flag of England has the red Cross, against a white background. It is often referred to as the Flag of Saint George, the patron saint of England.
- Flag of Ireland: The flag of Ireland is a diagonal Red Cross, against a white background. Known as the flag of Saint Patrick, it is named after the patron saint of Ireland.
- Flag of Scotland: The Scottish flag has a diagonal white cross against a blue background. It is named after the patron saint of Scotland and is therefore called the Flag of Saint Andrew.
The British flag is basically a combination of these three flags. It has a horizontal Cross and two interspersed diagonal Crosses. The white diagonal stripe takes the topmost position of the hoist, while flying the flag.
