Britain habitats primarily consist of freshwater, farmland, home, sea, hedge, wood, coastal, grassland, mountain and urban area. Habitat is the natural place where specific species live and grow. Britain has a diverse range of wildlife habitat.
  • Farmlands in Britain are man made landscapes of fields and small woodlands with hedges. The farmlands with hedges are one of the most important wildlife habitats in Britain.

  • Mountainous Habitat in Britain varies from low to mid alpine zone, which comprises moss and lichen heaths.

  • Fresh water habitats in Britain consist of ponds, lakes, streams, reservoirs and rivers. Human intervention influences the growth and change of these fresh water habitats. Presently, ponds are becoming an endangered habitat in Britain. The ponds in Britain are mostly seen in private gardens or within school campuses. Ponds are an indispensable habitat for a variety of species, including frogs, fishes, toads, newts and ducks.

  • Hedge in Britain is a barrier made up of closely growing shrubs or woody bushes. One unique characteristic of hedge is that it can survive through severe winters. The Countryside hedges in Britain comprise various kinds of plants; whereas in gardens and parks, hedges consist of a particular kind of species.

  • A large number of animals inhabit the hedges. These include birds, mammals (foxes and forest mouse), reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. The commonest hedgerow plant is the spring-flowering shrub, and it is normally found in countryside hedges. These spring-flowering shrubs have tough thorny branches. Many of the hedgerow plants in Britain are deciduous (lose leaves at the end of growing season) in nature. Some of the commonest species that grow in Britain hedges include foxgloves, primroses and garlic mustard.

  • The wetlands in Britain are those low regions where lands are saturated with water. The wetland in Britain is the habitation for various kinds of birds and exotic plants like sedge and mace. The ditches also form a part of the wetlands habitat in Britain. Various types of invertebrate, water fleas and reptiles inhabit these ditches. Throughout the year, the ditches in Britain are filled up with water. These ditches serve as a breeding place for sticklebacks. The sticklebacks are scale-less spiny-backed fishes.
