Britain Climate



Variability is a telling feature of Britain climate. However, it is generally mild and temperate because of its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. The weather of Britain is regulated by depressions, and thus can be unpredictable in nature at times. The temperature seldom rises above 32°C (90°F) or drops below -10°C (14°F). The average annual temperature in England, specifically at low altitudes regions, ranges from 8.5 °C to 11 °C.

A total of four seasons are predominant in Britain. These are winter (December to March), autumn (September to November), summer (June to August) and spring (March to May). The daily sunshine hour in Britain persists at an average of two hours in midwinter and six hours in midsummer.

Rain in Britain normally comes during the period from October to January. The people in Britain do not experience much rainfall during February and March. From May to July, the average daily sunshine hours varies from five to eight hours. In northern Scotland, daily sunshine hours persist for an average of 5 hours, whereas in the English island of Isle of Wight, the sunshine lasts for an average of 8 hours.

In the month of November, December and January, sunshine lasts for 1 to 2 hours a day. In northern Scotland, it is at an average of one hour and in the south coast of England, the sunlight lasts for an average of two hours a day.

The western and upland regions of Britain experience heavy rainfall. The annual average rainfall in these regions exceeds 1,100 millimeters. The people in the lowland regions of Britain, including central England, experience an annual rainfall ranging from 700 millimeters to 850 millimeters. The lowest rainfall (550 millimeters) regions in Britain include Eastern England and South East Britain.

The climate in Britain is normally cool, with frequent cloud and rain. The Gulf Stream influences to keep the winters milder. The Britain climate is characterized by variety. The weather changes from day to day and it is unpredictable in nature. As a whole, Britain has warm summers and cool winters. In winter, the intensity of sunshine becomes low due to foggy weather. Britain weather remains largely humid because of Atlantic winds.
