It was set up in the year 1992 jointly by the Wellcome Trust and the Medical Research Council. Sanger Institute in Britain is named after the Nobel Prize winning bio-chemist Frederick Sanger. History of Sanger Institute
The famous research institute of Sanger was founded with the sole motive to map, sequence and decode human genome and genomes of other organisms. John Sulston was the founding Director of the institute. Since its inception, the research institute has been a key player in the field of genetics. In the year 2000, Allan Bradley was declared the new Director of the institute. Since then, the institute has achieved much and contributed towards research work in human genetics significantly.
