Isle of Man

Isle of Man is a British Crown dependency island situated between Britain and Ireland. The unit of currency is the British Pound. The Isle of Man Airport receives regular flights from British cities like London and Manchester.

The Isle of Man may also be reached by boat. Ferry services exist from Heysham and Liverpool in England. Regular ferries are also available from Dublin in Ireland and Belfast in Northern Ireland.

Attractions in Isle of Man

There are innumerable places of historical interest in the Isle of Man. Attractions such as coastal forts, ancient churches, Viking stone crosses, Celtics, medieval castles, and burial grounds entice the tourists. Other attractions include Peel Castle, Derby Fort, Rushen Castle, Rushen Abbey, Old House of Keys, and St. Thomas Church. The gardens of Isle of Man also form a major tourist attraction. The Sunken Gardens and the Cooily Ree Gardens are two of the more picturesque gardens in the island. In the Isle of Man, tourists may also find a number of mines. The Laxey Mines constitute an important part of the history of the island.

The wide variety of animal and flower species found in Isle of Man is the crowning glory of the island. Some of the places that must be visited for observing the flora and the fauna are Ayres Nature Reserve, Calf of Man, Manx Wildlife Trust, Curraghs Wildlife Park, and Manx Bird Atlas.

Perhaps the best attraction of Isle of Man that sets it apart is the combination of steam railways, horse trams, and electric trams. Isle of Man also serves as a popular location for shooting films. These sites often feature as an important part of a traveler’s tour itinerary.

The nightlife at Isle of Man is surprisingly vibrant compared to its size. Clubs and pubs are scattered throughout the island. Shopping at the Isle of Man is full of possibilities. Strand Street located on Douglas is the principal shopping hub. Isle of Man has a rich cultural heritage and the island is home to a number of theaters as well. The well-known theaters in the island include Gaiety Theater, Palace Cinema, and Villa Marina. Savoring some authentic cuisines at Isle of Man is an integral part of a visit to the island. The specialties include Manx Lobster, crab dishes and Queenies.

Other places of attraction at Isle of Man include Grove Museum, Manx Museum, Cregneash Village Folk Museum, Nautical Museum, Laxey Woolen Mills, and Laxey Heritage Trust.
