Botswana National Cricket Team

Botswana National Cricket Team ranks at the 29th position at an international level, according to the International Cricket Council. The
Botswana National Cricket Team
is under the captaincy of Tshepo Mhozya and is at second position in the World Cricket League Africa Region Division. The first match that was played by the National Cricket Team of Botswana was on 2nd September, 2002. The match was played versus Zambia at Lusaka in Zambia. The Botswana National Cricket Team has received a regional non-test ranking at the 5th position. ICC membership was granted to the National Cricket Team at Botswana in 2001.

Cricket saw its first lights at Botswana due to the initiatives taken by some of the expatriates from India and South Africa. Since 2005, the Botswana National Cricket Team is an associate member of the International Cricket Council. In the World Cricket League, the National Cricket Team in Botswana is placed amongst the Division Five.

The African affiliates 2005 ICC Trophy qualifying tournament that was conducted in the year 2004, was won by the Cricket team of Botswana. Although they qualified to the final round, but badly missed out on their very first ICC Trophy. Steps are being taken by the Sports Department of Botswana to promote cricket in the country.
