The Botswana National Front is the principal opposition party in Botswana. The party is one of the left leaning parties of the Botswana political spectrum. The Botswana National Front enjoys considerable support among the Botswana electorate. The BNP has won more than 26% of the total votes polled in the last general elections. The Botswana National Front currently holds 12 seats out of the total of 57 seats in Botswana Parliament. The party has adopted the political slogan-“Time for Change” in order to fight elections in an effective manner. The Botswana National Front or BNF follows the ideology of social democracy.
The Botswana National Front has suffered in recent times due to ideological conflicts within the party. This has led to the unfortunate development of the party splitting up into a number of smaller political entities. One of the splinter groups formed a new political party-the Botswana Congress Party. The ideologies of the two parties however, are the same. Past leaders of the Botswana National Front included illustrious persons like Kenneth Koma and Chief Bathoen.
