Okavango River

The Okavango River is a major river in the southwestern part of Africa. In the terms of size, the Okavango River stands fourth in southern Africa.
The flow of Okavango River continues from south to east. The length of Okavango River measures nearly about 1,600 kilometers. The origin of Okavango River is found in Angola. In Angola, this river is called by the name of Cubango River. During its course, this river creates a geographical border between Namibia and Angola.

After the Cubango River crosses Angola and enters Botswana with the name of the Okavango River, an interesting incident happens in between. There is a difference in the elevation of the riverbeds. This disparity leads to a fall of water from a height of 4 meters to the 1.2 kilometers wide Okavango River. This leads to the formation of a number of rapids which are known as Popa Falls. Tourists can enjoy this sight of the downfall mostly in the dry part of the year. In the rainy seasons, this downfall cannot be realized truly.

The course line of Okavango River along Botswana presents a resting place for various species of birds. The tourists to Okavango River find it interesting to watch the colorful birds fly over the Okavango River. Varieties of wildlife species like crocodiles, hippos, elephant, buffalo and lion can also be seen in the waters of Okavango River or on the banks of Okavango River.
