The
Molopo River is one of the major rivers of Africa. A long stretch of the
Molopo River lies in South Africa. It also plays a big role in the geographical division of Africa. The stretch of the Molopo River creates a geographical border between South Africa and Botswana. The length of Molopo River is nearly 960 kilometers. The general flow of Molopo River continues from south to west. Finally the Molopo River drains itself into the Atlantic Ocean.
The tourists pay a visit in large numbers to the Molopo River every year. But the water flow of Molopo River cannot be enjoyed all throughout the year. The water generally dries in the summer season. The water current in Molopo River, is maximum during the monsoon seasons. In this season, the Molopo River often overflows to create floods. At that point of the season, the Molopo River merges with the prime river of South Africa, Orange River.
But after the flooding waters recedes back and rain stops, the Molopo River once again separates from the Orange River. Because of the temporary merging of the Molopo River with the Orange River, the Molopo River is considered to be a section of the Orange River system.
Lush green bushes lie all along the banks of the Molopo River. The limestone cobbles along the course of Molopo River creates problem for the smooth flow of the boats. But the adventure lovers are often seen boating on the Molopo River.
