The
Chobe River is one of the major rivers in the southern part of Africa. During the course of flow through different regions, the
Chobe River is
known by different names. In Angola it is known by the name of Kwando River, while in Botswana and Ngoma this very river is recognized as Linyanti River and Chobe River respectively. The origin of Chobe River is found in the northern Angolan highlands. The geologists claim that in the earlier days the Chobe River flew in association with the other major rivers of Southern Africa, Okavango and Zambezi. But owing to the earth movements, several highlands have developed leading to the break of the flow of the three rivers as a single one.
The flow of Chobe River gives birth to many hidden lagoons. Several travel enthusiasts often engage themselves in the exploration of these hidden lagoons. The water lilies of varied types have been found in many of the discovered lagoons. During the monsoon times, the Chobe River often floods the nearby banks. The banks of Chobe River are covered with thick woodlands over a large stretch.
The rare species of wildlife can be found in and around the Chobe River. Caprivi Strip that lies across the river in Botswana presents a magnificent picture of the grazing cattle. Varieties of wildlife can also be found in the Chobe National Park.
