Herero Botswana

The Herero ethnic group occupies an important position among the other ethnic groups found in Botswana. The Herero ethnic group also
belonged to the Bantu group and it has 1, 20,000 people living till date. The majority of the people belonging to Herero group live in Namibia and only a small portion live in Angola and Botswana. The people belonging to this group earn their living either by working on the large farms or as traders or merchants in cities. During the 17th and the 18th centuries, the Herero moved towards Namibia and got settled there as herdsmen. The Hereros were first ousted by the Namas. In the Darmaland, to establish farms, the Germans forcibly acquired land from those belonged to the Herero ethnic groups.

The Herero ethnic groups live in a society where they established their own rules, laws and customs. Apart from this, they also follow their own religious practices and rituals. As they were highly skilled in the art of cattle rearing, milk and meat were found in abundance. The Herero ethnic groups share everything in common and there is a strong bond of unity and harmony among the people of the tribe. The people of the Herero ethnic group also actively participated in the Second World War.
