Botswana Science and Technology

Development in the field of Botswana science and technology is taking place at a rapid speed. The creation of a separate Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology (MCST) in the year 2002 proved the country’s eagerness to develop as hi-tech country. Botswana science and technology aims at giving the country the latest technologies so that Botswana can make commendable progress in the economy and all related sectors.

The aim of the MCST was mainly to make Botswana into “an information and knowledge based economy”. In Botswana, the sectors of agriculture and mining are the major areas where the generation of employment occurs and so the need of improved science and technology is a must.

In the year 2002 in the month of May, National Commission for Science and Technology (NCST) was also launched to develop the technological and scientific sector of the country.
This particular sector not only gets benefited from these two bodies of MCST and NCST but also from various international consultant bodies.

The major areas that are being given special attention from the scientific and technological point of view are service and health industry, mining, manufacturing, software, agriculture, energy, media education, and many more sectors. Botswana College of Agriculture is also working on some points of science and technology in Botswana and the students of this college are getting highly facilitated from the advanced and specialized studies.
