Situated in Hamilton Parish, the Crystal Caves Bermuda is the most noted among the island's several underground caves. The Crystal Caves Bermuda has an amazing story behind its discovery. In 1905, Carl Gibbons and Edgar Hollis, two 12 year old boys, ventured out in search of their lost cricket ball and in the process discovered a marvel of nature; the Crystal Caves.
The Crystal Caves Bermuda is owned by the Wilkinson family since 1884. It has been dubbed “ Crystal” because of the crystal clear blue pool of water that occupies it. Indeed, the water is so clear that its transparency offers a view of the cave floor. In certain points, the cave has a depth of 55 feet below the water surface. Adorning the caves are numerous stalactites and stalagmites formed over several million years.
For the convenience of the tourists, a wooden pontoon has been constructed over the water. The visitors can walk on this pontoon to have a look around the cave. Tourist guides are also easily available. They provide the visitors with ample information about the history of the Crystal Caves in Bermuda. The visitors also get to know about the geology of the Crystal Caves in Bermuda.
In 2001, Crystal Cave's Sister, Fantasy Cave was reopened for tourists. A yellow brick road connects these two underground caves of Bermuda.
Crystal Caves Bermuda also has a Café Ole, which provides refreshments to the visitors.
