Mild winter weather turns people's thoughts to more cerebral pursuits. So the Bermuda Festivals always starts in winter, in late January, and extends through all of February. The almost casual unfolding of events makes for an unstressed event, with festival-goers able to leisurely work in other pursuits rather than madly dashing from one event to another.
At the beginning of each year Bermuda becomes an international hub for cultural exchange and artistic growth. Performing artists from a range of disciplines come from around the globe to present a schedule of events designed to appeal to a wide and diverse audience.
An annual event for three decades, the
Bermuda Festival had auspicious beginnings.
Festival held in Bermuda in January 1976 owes its conception to world renowned violinist, the late Lord Menuhin who performed in inauguration accompanied by his pianist sister Hephzibah.
Festival of Bermuda has continued to offer a range of performances by a diverse selection of artists of international repute. Initially the emphasis was on music, but in its quest to reach out to every member of the community, it has diversified and covers the entire spectrum of the performing arts. Opening new horizons of excellence to our young people,
Bermuda Festival's outreach programme provides special performances and workshop opportunities for school students, given by the
Bermuda Festivals performers while they are on the island.
