Benin President is the most important authority in the realm of politics in the west African land. The Benin President is both the head of the government as well as the head of the state. The Benin President is elected by the system of popular voting in which all the citizens , who are eighteen years of age or more, of the country are allowed to participate. The Benin President is elected for a time span of five years. Each President of Benin can be reelected only twice in his entire life-time.
Soglo was the first Benin President after the 1990 constitution changed the face of Benin politics and introduced the multi-party system in the land. He was elected in the year 1991 with 68% of the total votes. Soglo was followed by Kerekou in the year 1996, with 52.49% votes.
The Benin President appoints the executive council who looks after the executive branch and its works in the entire country. The most significant aspect of the Presidential System in Benin is that of stability, since the president provides much more stability to the government of this west African country, as compared to a prime minister who is liable to be dismissed at any time.
