The government of Benin has taken active steps to improve the Benin environment. The environment of Benin is to be substantially improved by establishing a number of game reserves and national parks. The Benin government has allocated more than 5,000 hectares for re-forestation of the land. A healthy ecological climate is to be created in this manner. More than 6% of the total land area of Benin falls under the ecological program. Water pollution is rampant in the country. The phenomena of droughts plague the Republic of Benin at regular intervals. A majority of Benin citizens do not have proper access to drinkable water.
