It stretches eastward for a distance of 400 miles. The bight of Benin culminates at the Nun outlet of the Niger river. The Bight of Bonny extends the natural geographic formation to the east. The Bight of Benin is regarded as a part of the Gulf of Guinea.
The Bight of Benin was once associated with the slave trade. Many slaves started their journeys towards European colonies in ships from the bay itself. The British controlled the trade in its heyday.
