Belize Flora

Belize houses a vast and ideal habitat for flora and fauna. A country rich in biodiversity, Belize is home to a wide range of flora species. Belize flora is diverse and remarkable. Approximately 4000 species of flowering plants are found in Belize that are native to the country. Moreover, there are almost 700 species of trees and a huge number of species of other plants in Belize.

With 70% of its lands covered by forests, Belize is a fascinating storehouse of a wide range of flora species. Belize flora comprises historically and economically valuable trees. The most important tree is Mahogany. Flora in Belize also consists of common fruit trees like guava, Custard Apple, Cashew, Coconut, mango, Pineapple, Banana etc.

Orchids form a major part of the flora of Belize. Black Orchid is the national flower of Belize. Medicinal plants are also included in Belize flora.
Of the flowering plants 2,500 are dicots and 1,500 are monocots.
