Traditional Food of Belize

Traditional food of Belize form an integral part of Belize culture. The traditional dishes of Belize are armadillo and venison paca. However rice and beans are the basic items consumed by the Belizeans. The traditional dishes also include Maya and Spanish dishes. Besides the traditional food of Belize, there are other national dishes widely consumed and enjoyed by the Belizeans.

The restaurants in Belize serve these exotic delicacies to lure millions of hearts. The Rice and bean dish is prepared by cooking the beans separately, and is then served along with the gravy over white rice.

This dish is consumed with fish, chicken, pork, beef or vegetables. Rice and bean was invented by the Creoles, one of the largest ethnic group of Belize. Maya and Spanish dishes are also included in the traditional food of Belize.

Corn is the main ingredient in all the food in Belize. Besides tortilla and black beans, plantains and pepper are also the key ingredients used in most of the food in Belize.
