The list of diseases in Belarus includes terminal diseases like HIV or AIDS and various forms of cancer among others. The health environment is further aggravated by the absence of quality healthcare facilities in the country.
One of the more prominent diseases among the list of terminal diseases in Belarus is the incidence of various types of cancer among the general population. This is due to the horrifying Chernobyl accident that occurred in 1986. The nuclear disaster had lasting fallout on the populace that fell within the infected area of the doomed nuclear reactor. The effect was particularly visible on the children, who were born immediately after the tragedy. Cancer now tops the list of many Belarus diseases. Thyroid cancer is also seen in many patients. Other diseases of Belarus include dermatological and endocrinal abnormalities. Many Belarus citizens also suffer from mental disorders.
The East European country also suffers from a large number of AIDS patients. The Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome or AIDS is particularly prevalent among the 15 to 24 years age group. Higher incidence of AIDS is seen in the urban areas. Majority of the terminally ill patients are male. The percentage of women comes to approximately 35%. The Belorussian government is actively promoting AIDS awareness in the country.
