Council of the Republic of Belarus



The Council of the Republic of Belarus is the upper house of the National Assembly of Belarus. The Council of the Republic of Belarus consist of 64 members.
Out of these 64 members, eight members are directly appointed by the president of the country. The rest of the members are represented on the basis of their geographical location and Minsk, which is the national capital known as the Soviet of Deputies. The basic criteria to get elected to the Council of the Republic of Belarus is that the individual must be 30 years of age or more, should be a permanent citizen of Belarus for at least five consecutive years. Apart from this he or she must be mentally sound and rational.

The key functions of the Council of Republic of Belarus are mentioned below:

  • Approving the budget of the state
