The Constitutional Court of Belarus is a superior court in the former Soviet country. The Belarus Constitutional Court is run in accordance with the guidelines that were drawn in 1997.
The principal function of the Constitutional Court of Belarus is to pronounce sound judgment on specific areas, where the country's Constitution is being questioned. An example of this is a local law that clashes with the basic ideals of the Belorussian Constitution. The Constitutional Court in Belarus is presided over by twelve judges. Each of these judges is required to have degrees in legal studies. The judges are elected by two means: six judges are appointed by the Belorussian President, while the remaining six are appointed by the Council of the Republic. The judges enjoy a term of 11 years.
