The Communist Party of Belarus or KPB occupies eight seats in the Belarus House of Representatives. It is one of the larger parties in Belarus. The party however, cannot claim to enjoy the support of a large section of the Belarus population. The mandate is too fractured to enable one party to hold sway. The present government is composed of a coalition of parties that combine together to keep President Alexander Lukashenko in power. There have been reports to merge the two communist parties- the KPB and PKB. This move is rejected by the PKB with the reasoning that President Lukashenko wishes to destroy the opposition PKB in this manner.
