Belarus industry forms the base of the economy of the country of Belarus. In the times when Belarus was a part of the Soviet Union, the industry was very strong in Belarus. Even after the break up of the USSR, Belarus still has the Belarus industry as its economic base. Belarus industry contributes to 26.8% of the total GDP.
There was an initial outburst of the capitalist reform during the years 1991 to 1994 which included the privatization of the state enterprises, entrepreneurship and the creation of the industry in Belarus. However, after the emphasis on the “socially oriented market economy” in the latter part of 1990s, about eighty percent of all the Belarus industry is in the hands of the state. This is leading to a hindrance to the foreign investment in the industries of Belarus. The government in the present days is trying its best to move the state run economy to a higher free market system.
The main branches of the Belarus industry produces machines for use in construction and mining, tractors and trucks, metal-cutting machine tools, motorcycles, agricultural equipment, chemicals, textiles, fertilizer and various consumer goods. The chief trading partners of the industry at Belarus include Russia, Poland, Ukraine and Germany.
