    Bahrain Royal Family

The Bahrain Royal Family has governed successfully over the Kingdom of Bahrain. It has been ruled by the celebrated Bahrain Royal Family Al Khalifa dynasty, from the year of 1783. The land of Bahrain became a British colony or territory in the nineteenth century, and ultimately achieved its independence in 1971.

The history of this country shows that the first voted legislative body was debarred in year of 1975 by the well known emir Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa. Thus the nation of Bahrain became a conventional as well as established monarchy, without any political party or voting system.

After the sudden death of Sheikh Isa in the year of 1999 his son Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa acquired the throne and was encouraged quickly in the direction of democratic transformation. At present the monarchy of Bahrain is named as the ‘Kingdom of Bahrain', and Sheik Hamad's designation has been altered from emir to king.

The country of Bahrain formally became a constitutional realm in year 2002. At this time, there is a democratically voted parliament, even though King Hamad owns power to select and assign a ‘Shura council' with governmental powers equivalent to that of the Bahrain parliament. Women can run for office. Political parties are however publicly barred, but several political societies are allowed to support campaigners in voting process.
