The Middle East nation today, widely refers to a region comprising mainly of Arab countries of which, Bahrain is the smallest nation in terms of geographical area. Politics of Bahrain takes place in a framework of a constitutional monarchy. The position of King of Bahrain was created in February 2002. Between 1783 and 1971 the rulers of Bahrain were titled as Hakim of Bahrain. In the year of 2002, the then emir of Bahrain Hamad ibn Isa al-Khalifah declared himself as the king of Bahrain . The king of Bahrain is the country's head of state and has almost absolute power. The current king of Bahrain is Hamad ibn Isa al-Khalifah. But nowadays things are all have been changed and the current king has lost some of his power due to reforms.
The King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa is the elder son of the late Amir of Bahrain, Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa. The current King of Bahrain was born in Riffa on the January 28, 1950. At the age of six, he began his primary education in Bahrain. After completing that, for his secondary schooling, he joined the Leys School in Cambridge, England, and later at military colleges in the United Kingdom and United States. On 16 February 1979 he was awarded the Knight of the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George from the United Kingdom. Following his father, King Hamad brought in comprehensive political reforms to the Kingdom of Bahrain, which included the release of all political prisoners, giving women the right to vote, and holding elections for parliament. The King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and his wife, Shaikha Sabika bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, had six children.
