The current national flag of Bahrain was officially accepted on 14 th of February, 2002 just after the Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain stated his country as a Kingdom and himself as a ‘King' instead of ‘Emir'. The toothy edging between the white and red color is depicted to differentiate the flag from the representative flag of the country of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.
Initially the Bahrain flag was completely red, borrowed from the color of the Kharidjite Muslim division. But in the era of the nineteenth century, a white band of color was added to indicate armistices prepared with bordering countries, and the notched triangles were then designed to make a difference of the flag of Bahrain from that of its vicinity.

The triangles tip to the right hand side of the Bahrain flag. The triangles on the white band of color stand for the five pillars of Islam. The color red is believed to signify the Kharijite segment of Islam.
