The Durrat Al Bahrain is a residential, leisure and tourist resort which is under construction near the southern tip of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The project comprises of 13 man-made islands covering an area of 20 million square kilometers. Durrat Al Bahrain consists of a crescent-shaped island, five-star hotels, an 18-hole golf course, six atolls, five petal islands, 12 bridges and a marina. The Durrat Al Bahrain is jointly owned by the Kuwait Finance House and the Kingdom of Bahrain's Government. The development of this project was designed and master planned by Dubai-based architects Atkins Middle East.
The six atoll islands of Durrat Al Bahrain will form an arc like structure and each of these would have 172 residential villas with boat and beach facilities. Every atoll will have 1.5kms of beach land, separate beach island for ladies and will be easily accessible by bridges from the petal islands. The five petal islands which form an arc and will also have 52 to 90 villas. Each of these villas will enjoy the access to jetties, community facilities and a shared beach. All the islands of Durrat Al Bahrain are connected by a circular bridge which further connects to the crescent island.
The crescent island is positioned at the heart of the Durrat Al Bahrain , facing towards the central lagoon. It contains a series of beaches extending up to 2kms. The crescent island will have cafes, restaurants, shops, markets, shopping malls, beaches and ferry terminals. The conference and exhibition center at this island will cater to the business community whereas the 2,000 apartments, schools, police and fires stations, medical facilities and mosque will serve the residential community. A Central Hotel will be located at the center of the entire development which will have 300-600 rooms and suites. This hotel will have mega soft play zones, nursery, water sports center and spa, family restaurants, tennis and fitness club and an aqua park.
The Durrat Al Bahrain is expected to be completed by 2009.
