Sankt Polten (St. Polten), Austria is the capital of Lower Austria, and the city rests on the Traisen river and is situated north of the Alps and south of the Wachau. It is a section of the Mostviertel, the southwest region of Lower Austria.
Built on the site of the ancient Roman city Aelium Cetium, the age of the oldest part of Sankt Polten (St. Polten), Austria is almost between the 2nd and the 4th century. It was named Treisman, in the year 799. The city was declared the capital of Lower Austria with a resolution by the Lower Austrian parliament on July 10, 1986.
