The Melbourne Football Club (MFC) is nicknamed as The Demons . The Melbourne Football Club is an Australian football club playing in the Australian Football League. It is based in Melbourne, Victoria. The club was established in 1858 and is the oldest football club in Australia . It is also one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

The members of the Melbourne Football Club came together unofficially on August 7, 1858 and led to the formal establishment of the club in 1859. Finally on May 17, 1859 Tom Wills, W.J. Hammersley and J.B. Thompson gave a written set of rules for Australian rules football at the Parade Hotel in East Melbourne. By the year 1866, many other sporting clubs had adopted an up to date version of the Melbourne football club's rules.

Norm Smith may be regarded as a catalyst for The Demons early success. Later he became a coach and contributed much for the success of the club. In 1933 the Melbourne football club changed their moniker to the " Demons ".
F.V. Hughes became Melbourne football club's coach in 1933, and under his leadership the club entered into a glorious period.
The current club mascot of Melbourne football club is Rotten Ronald Deeman (after Ron Barassi and Jack Richter). The mascot was changed at the end of the 2005 season from a white skinned demon with a red cape to a red skinned demon without any cape. The demon carries a trident, has devil horns and has a pointed Devil tail.
