.This event started in the year 1954 and ended in the year 2000. Initially

Miss Australia

competition started in 1908 and in the year 1954 this event was tagged along with The Spastics Centers of Australia . From 1954 to 1960 this event was organized and sponsored by Hickory, the lingerie manufacturer. Later in 1960 this responsibility was transferred to the Australian Cerebral Palsy Association by Dowd Associates.

Earlier, from the year 1926 the winner of the event was given “ The Miss Australia Quest” but later in the year 1992 the title was changed to “The Miss Australia Awards” .

Miss Australia

was given certain responsibility of raising money for “The Spastics Centers of Australia” through her friends and families .

“Miss Australia”

was also given the task of raising money for people affected with Cerebral Palsy.

Later in the year 2000 when Miss Australia Event got separated from The Spastic Centers of Australia , the title was changed to “Miss Universe Australia” .

Miss 2006 Australia

Sabrina Houssami was crowned as Miss world Australia 2006 on Wednesday 19th July, 2006.

First Miss Australia with an immigrant background was Tania Verstak , who won the title in the year 1960. In 1999, Kathryn Hay was the first aboriginal woman to bag the title of “Miss Australia”.

” title is used in several International Beauty Pageants. Further, there are many competitions where winners and runners up of the Miss Australia competition is sent, like the Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss Earth and the tag Miss Australia is added to the title for differentiating the national participants in the International pageants.
