Australia is divided into three time zones for easy calculation of its current and local time . Australia lies between Indian Ocean and South Pacific Ocean and its geographical location is 33° 52' S, 151° 13' E. It currently observes the Standard time. Australia has been divided into six states and two territories. The two territories are the Northern Territory and Australian Capital Territory.The six states are Western Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, Queenaland, South Australia and Queensland.
For convenience Australia has been divided into three time zones. Under the time zones some of the states follow the day saving time and some do not follow the day saving time. The time zones are
Western Standard Time (WST) which is followed by Western Australia
Eastern Standard Time (EST): which is followed by New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, Tasmania and Queensland.
Central Standard Time (CST) which is South Australia and Northern Territory.
The states which follow the day saving time are Victoria, Tasmania, Australian Capital Territory and the New South Wales. They follow the Eastern Time zones. According to the Standard time these states are ahead of the GMT time by 10 hours. According to the daylight saving time they are ahead of the GMT time by 11hours. So there is a difference of hour.
South Australia lies in the Australian Central zone but follows the day light saving time.
According to the Standard time South Australia is nine and half hours ahead of the GMT time. When under the day light saving time it is ten and an hour ahead of the GMT time.
The Northern Territory is ahead of the GMT Time by ten hours and the Northern Territory by nine and a half hours. Surprisingly Western Australia has begun a program of following the day light saving time. After three years it will decide which time schedule it will follow.
In the Standard time Western Australia is eight hours ahead of the GMT and in the day light saving time it is ahead y nine hours.
