The country of
Australia possesses a rich and diverse culture. The inhabitants of
Australia, before the coming of James Cook, who discovered the country, were the
“Aborigines” - the people of a particular ethnic group. Starting with them and the subsequent influx of the immigrants all over the world,
Australian culture has grown to be one of the most diverse cultures of the world.
Australia came to be inhabited by the English people soon after England claimed it as their own land and thereafter the dominant culture of the country became
“Anglo Celtic” . At present however, keeping in pace with the changing times, the culture of Australia has come to be more
Americanized.
The primitive
Aboriginals had their own
culture of drawing pictures on the walls of the caves and the barks of the trees. With the advent of the European colonization the subject of the paintings changed to the beautiful scenic beauty of Australia as is evident in the works of Aurthur Streeton and Aurthur Boyd. The effects of the
Australian Aboriginal culture , their music dance and art continued to have its effect on the present day art and culture.
Banjo Patterson and
Henry Lawson are well known Australian writers while
Patrick White won the first noble for the country in literature.
The
Australians are fond of music, ballet and theaters, but most of all the
Australians love is the
sports . They have established their supremacy in the field of
cricket , hockey and football. But above all what predominates the
Australian culture is their “
love for life” and their
courage and zest to enjoy life to the fullest.
The
health food of the Aboriginals were the animals like Kangaroos and the Emus hunted by them. The colonization of the British brought with them their food habit and the
Australian food was mainly based on flour. Today, the Australians are interested about different
health food of different countries like English, Irish, Indian, Chinese and Vietnamese.
