The history of Australia (Sydney) begins with the arrival of the first fleet of to Botany 1788. It was commissioned by Thomas Townshend, Baron Sydney, escorted by Captain Arthur Phillip. It is assumed that Sydney regions were inhabited by the indigenous Australians for near about 40,000 years. At that time the number of Australian population was around 8000. Local People of multiple cultures used almost three languages for verbal communication, these were further refined into dialects spoken by smaller clans.
British government signed the convict agreement, for colonizing Australia, in 1788. Phillip founded the colony at Sydney Cove on Port Jackson, and named it after the British Home Secretary, Thomas Townshend, Lord Sydney.
In April 1789, epidemic of pox killed around thousand aboriginal people, decimating decimated the population of Sydney, in the area between Broken and Botany Bays. For this incident, of Sydney, a violent confrontation took place between the local warrior and the British government, around Botany Bay.
Since 1851, port of Sydney started inhabiting, waves of people from around the world, de to the initiation of Gold rushes. Rapid housing development started in the last quarter of the 19th century with the arrival of steam powered tramways and railways.
By 1820 there were only a few hundred Aborigines left with Governor Macquarie. The local people and the governor decided to civilize, Christianize and educate the Aborigines by removing them from their clans.
Sydney was improved from its basic beginnings around 1796. In 1822, British and Irish convicts contributed for the overall development of Sydney by constructing Roads, bridges, wharves and public buildings. The towns were modified and modernized with banks, markets, well-established streets and organized constabulary. More rapid progress took place, when the ships began arriving from Britain and Ireland with immigrants looking to start a new life in a new country. On July 20, 1842 the municipal council of Sydney was incorporated and the town was declared as the first City in Australia. The first mayor of the first city was Charles H. Chambers.
