The details of Western Australia Government can be found in the constitution. The final boundaries and area of the Western Australian state has been subject to a series of amendments to the constitution. Western Australia has been a state of the Australian commonwealth since 1901. The Western Australia Government is based on the Westminster Principle which is a distinct characteristic of British government. It is a form of parliamentary government .

The Western Australia Government has the Executive council as the formal executive power holder. Governor and senior ministers are there in executive council. Governor remains at the head but is a mere titular head. He holds an honorary post and is completely controlled by the members of the legislative assembly . The first western Australia's governor was Captain James Stirling . In reality the executive power is held by the Premier of Western Australia and the Cabinet Members. The members of this cabinet are appointed by the governor. On the other hand the judicial power is executed by the Western Australian Supreme Court but the high court possesses the power regarding the final jurisdiction. The other federal courts enjoy power on some other matters.

The Western Australia government consists of a parliament which has two houses. The lower house of the bicameral parliament is known as legislative assembly and the upper house is known as legislative council . The upper house is also known as the House of Review. MLAs are the members of the legislative assembly. On the other hand the members of the Legislative Assembly are elected through a preferential system whereas they are elected by the proportional representation system of voting . All citizens of 18 years and above are provided with the voting right.

In Western Australia, the Queen still remains at the head and appoints the governor on the premier's advice. The governor possesses three kinds of duties such as:
