If one is to dig deep into Turkey Armenia relations ,one thing is for certain that will dominate the discussions will be a sense of mistrust and a bloody conflict that reduced a sizable section of Armenian population to mere martyrs.
The history for the Armenians caught in the under currents of Turkey Armenia cold war first started to go terribly wrong since the year 1915. Between the year 1915 and 1917,the first jolt for the Armenians came from the Russians, when the entire part of Armenia governed by Ottoman regime was conquered by the Russians.
But the agony for the people of Turkey Armenia did not end there. After the Russian troops departed with a wining note in the Bolshevik war in 1917, the depleted and devastated Armenians to regain their lost ground, formed a coalition of partners and made themselves available as one of the key members of the Transcaucasian Federation, with Azerbaijan and Georgia being the other partners of the the Federation. But the OttomanTurks continued to wage a holy war against the Armenians.
Caught in the web of this sense of mistrust and the apprehensions triggered by the the Ottoman Turks- the residents of Turkey,of a further ambush, Turkey Armenia relations got further strained. Armenians pitched for the formation of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Or Dashnak to give their self- autonomy plan a further boost. In 1918 Armenia became an independent Republic.
But Turkey Armenia relations took a a beating by a series of reprisals launched by the ottoman Turks under the leadership of Kemal Ataturk and a series of mayhem followed. In October21 1919, the conflict that was raging between the two countries over the territorial supremacy, resulted in a large-scale mass killing or genocide. Though the two warring countries are at the talk table to give a peace a chance, nothing concrete has emerged so far.
