Argentina rugby is honored in the international arena for the majestic performance of the Argentina National Rugby Team.

The team is nicknamed as los Pumas. The Argentina National Rugby Team makes the leader of the rugby union team in Americas. The Argentina rugby though has flourished in the international circuit, it has never been as popular as Argentina soccer. Argentina though comes under the regulation of International Rugby Board (IRB), holds no regular competition of international standards like the Tri nations or the Six Nations.

The Argentina National Rugby Team plays in sky blue and white jerseys. They started their rugby encounter in the year 1910 against the touring British Isles team. Since then, the Argentina rugby has come a long way. Since 1987, the Argentina National Rugby Team has been the regular participant in Rugby World Cup. The Argentine Rugby Union (UAR, from the Spanish Unión Argentina de Rugby) heads the Argentina National Rugby Team.

The British immigrants in Argentina deserve the kudos for importing rugby in Argentina. In 1899, four clubs in Argentina's capital, Buenos Aires, formed together the River Plate Rugby Football Union. Argentina rugby team lost their first match against the British rugby team by a score of 3 to 28 on July 12, 1910 in Buenos Aires.

The Argentina rugby team recorded their first victory in the land of Chile in 1936. 1938 saw more victories by Argentina rugby team against Chile hosted in Argentina. The next few decades have witnessed the triumph of Argentina National Rugby Team over Brazil, England, France and many rugby playing nations.
