San Luis is a province in the Cuyo region in Argentina and a city known as San Luis is the capital city of the province. San Luis is a place which stands at the junction where the Sierra Grandes and the Rio Chorrillos river meet. San Luis is surrounded on its four sides by Cordoba, Mendoza, San Juan, La Pampa and La Rioja .
In the olden days, San Luis was inhabited by Calchaquies, Puelches, Ranqueles, Puhuenches and Michilingues aboriginal tribes. San Luis city was founded by Luis Jufre de loaysa y Meneses in the year 1594. The city was reestablished in the year 1596 by Martin Garcia Onez de Loyola after several attacks made the natives abandon the city.
Railway as a mode of transportation arrived in San Luis in the year 1875, and that led to the emergence of many small and new settlements along the path.
Low Sierras borders the province on the north and the west. The central and the southern part of the province is the flatland comprising the Pampas and the center has a salt lake depressio n. The weather experienced in this province varies with the region. Temperate and arid climate predominates the weather condition of the province.
The industrial scenario of San Luis changed after the tax reduction policy in the year 198 2. The agriculture of the place comprises of maize cultivation . The other occupation includes diary farm, tanneries and meat plants . The industries in the San Luis comprises of textile industries, plastic and paper industries, ceramic and home appliance industries.
San Luis attracts people from other parts of
Argentina because of its mild weather. The
Sierra de las Quijadas National Park is a popular tourist spot. The artificial lakes and dams also attract tourists from the nearby areas.
