Chubut was occupied by the Indians till the seventeenth century. After numerous bloody fights and battles, the first Europeans came to the region in 1865 and Chubut was declared an independent province in 1955. Large deposits of petroleum had been discovered in Commodore Rivadavia, which is presently the largest city , for the first time in 1907 which paved a way for revenue generation. Fishing is also one of the main sources of revenue. The technology in Chubut started developing in the sixties and Chubu t gradually gained prominence on the international platform.
Chubut Argentina is located to the east of the Argentine sea with Santa Cruz to the south and Chile to the west. It is situated between Patagonica plateau to the east and Cordillerana to the west. The major river of the region is Chubut. The population of the region is 448,028 according to the last Census. Chubut Argentina has the total area of 224.686 square kilometers. The climate of the region is cold and dry with short summers. Five hundred millimeter of rain takes place with an average temperature of 8 degree Celsius.
It has a varied topography that consists of the deserts, Andean lakes, mountains and forests. These sanctuaries host a variety of animals including elephant seals, sea lions, penguins and whales. Tourists can also enjoy diving here due to the calm, transparent waters and rich marine life. It is considered as the Argentinian capital of scuba diving. While Gaiman remains the cultural and demographic centre, Rawson is the capital of the region.
