Catamarca

Catamarca is one of the famous and populous provincial areas of Argentina, situated in the north eastern zone of the country. The wide region of Catamarca holds a population of 334,568 aborigines. Under various ruling the state has been named and re-named quite a few times. In 1776 Catamarca owned the title of ‘Subintendencia' under the Salta intendancy. In 1821 the province claimed its self-government, and the first elected governor of Catamarca province was Nicolas Avellaneda y Tula.
