Mapsofworld.com, a portal that helps millions across the world to gain knowledge on various geographical areas around the world, is all about expansion of horizons, diversification and scaling of new heights.
Among the information sources of similar kind, the portal could carve a niche for itself in a very short span of time: in four years, to be precise. Here we attempt to trace back some landmark achievements of this mega project that has at present 2000 maps on various themes and a huge chunk of information on various topics of the world in its ambit.

MapsofWorld, which began its journey in 2003 is already growing in terms of quality, volume and coverage. Today, one can find almost every type of map and information on this portal.
Addition of maps and content to the portal is almost a regular exercise now. On an average, five hundred pages on various aspects of countries around the world are being uploaded everyday. But in spite of the quantity, the portal has not compromised a bit in terms of the standard and authenticity of its pages.
Along with various country maps, Maps of World has started publishing write-ups that cover almost all aspect of each country. The objective is to make the site one of the richest sources of encyclopedic knowledge on different regions and countries of the world.

Addition of more maps to the portal continued. Maps of World added to its collection many Physical Maps and other Detailed Maps on various countries and themes. By this time one could find description and maps on global events like elections in important countries, Olympics and other important sports events all around the world on Maps of World pages.
Along the promotional front, the portal set foot in Europe by participating in the Frankfurt Book Fair for the first time. Maps in German language became the portal's first efforts outside English language.
In 2006, the portal also added detailed US county maps to its compendium. Maps of World also took up all world countries individually and began preparing detailed maps and other thematic maps on them. In the same year MapsofWorld CD 2.0 was also launched.

MapsofWorld.com began to explore and cover some other current events of world interest and importance. Extensive coverage of the run up for 2006 FIFA World Cup and Formula One Tournaments became an instant hit.
Adding another feature in its cap, this portal bagged the Doha Games Mapping Project. In-depth and reliable news on two natural disasters, Hurricane Rita & Katrina, brought more traffic to the site.
Before the portal had launched its first CD product, MapsofWorld CD 1.0, in December, it had already added a lot to its information repertoire, country wise maps, travel maps and flags.

MapsofWorld.com added some new maps and segments like, Top Ten Countries in the world, Outline Maps (Blank Maps), World Thematic Maps and World Travel maps. The portal also introduced World Country Groupings section, like SAARC member countries, etc. which later became the backbone for sites and maps on all regions and countries of the world.
In addition, Mapsofworld.com also began focusing on current events across the world. This portal did extensive research and sketching of all Tsunami affected areas in the Asian sub-continent in December 2004. Gradually the popularity of Mapsofworld.com began to increase as more and more searchers started visiting the site for Tsunami related news.

MapsofWorld.com launched with just a few world maps on different topics.
Although, the variety and number of maps was relatively less at the time of our launch, we were on a high in terms of spirit, enthusiasm and determination. Our clear vision and the zeal to progress guided our team members and through their collective efforts we kept on adding new segments and new maps on our site. Indeed, the journey of a thousand miles was begun with a single step…but a sturdy step.
