Antigua Carnival represent the soul of this beautiful Caribbean country. This Carnival in Antigua was introduced to celebrate the freedom from slavery which the people of Antigua attained in the year 1834 on 1st of August. Back at that time Antigua Carnival was a festival or ceremony to celebrate this emancipation which they found newly. But the Carnival was made official in the year 1957.
Antigua Carnival which was officially celebrated from the year 1957 is a ten to eleven day celebration. Like any other festivals, Antigua Carnival is also full of dance, music, parade and other beauty hunt competitions. Through all these events which are celebrated in a very gay and happy spirit, Antigua Carnival draws in the surface the true happiness of the people of Antigua that they were made free from the bonds of slavery.
Antigua Carnival starts from the last week of July so that it ultimately ends in the first week of August. The Carnival is held in the Carnival City or Antigua Recreation Ground. The parades, dance and other shows all marches through the streets of the Antigua capital city St. John's. From a separate ticket corner tickets are available to the general people who wants to watch the shows and enjoy. Along the Carnival City there is another Carnival village where people can take the pleasure of fresh grilled delicacies and local liquors.
