Antarctica birds include a variety of different species. The majority of the Antarctic birds are the Antarctica skuas. The scientific name of the skua of Antarctica is Catharacta MacCormici. Found on the Antarctic regions, this variety of Antarctica birds feeds on the Adelie penguin eggs and chicks and also on other marine lives as well as human wastes. Among the various Antarctic birds the arrival time of this one is September. It lays eggs in the months of November to January and the chicks hatch by the end of January. The skuas don’t nest.
Another variety of birds of Antarctica is the Giant Antarctic Petrel or Macronects giganteus. These are the biggest and the longest living petrel birds in Antarctica. Its arrival time is August and it lays eggs in October and the chicks hatch by January. These predatory birds follow the ships at sea. The departure time of the chicks is April.
Cape Petrel or the Daption capense arrives in October and stays till February. It usually nests on high rocks and defends itself by throwing its stomach’s contents on the predator. Other species of birds in Antarctica include Storm petrel or Oceanites oceanicus, Snow petrel or Pagodroma nivea, Antarctic Fulmar or Fulmarus glacialoides.
