Antarctica is an island with vast geographical boundaries with exquisite polar plateaux, mountain ranges, ice stretching miles which would never melt. The Antarctica airlines have not yet developed to such an extent. There are two flights which have been scheduled to fly from Australia respectively in December 2007 and February 2008.
These two flights will take off from Sydney and Melbourne aboard Qantas Boeing 747-400 aircraft. For the first class all the seats would be sleeper seats with full length. For the Business class Deluxe all the seats would be either a window or next to window seats. The Economy class seats would be clear of the wing to get proper viewing facility. There are various other seating arrangements in the Antarctica airlines suiting to the needs of the passengers.
Cordon Travel and Quantas also has flights to Antarctica. In the year 1994 Cordon Travel and Quantas operated their first flight to Antarctica. They have operated 73 flights to Antarctica till date and have taken 25,000 tourists there. Cordon Travel is associated with Australia Pacific Touring which is the most reputable touring company of Australia.
In 1950s, flights over Antarctic Peninsula were made and from that time the tourists began to travel to Antarctica. The commercial flights started landing at McMurdo Sound and the South Pole during 1960s.Between 1977 and 1980 regular overflights started running taking tourists from Australia and New Zealand. From nearby Chile there are other companies too who have made flights to Antarctica. About 15,000 tourists till date have visited Antarctica by air.
