Antarctica is one of the last remote places remaining on earth. Antarctica travel is exciting due to the apparent dangers involved in the long and arduous journey.
The extreme land of Antarctica may be reached both by sea and air transport. Commercial flights are available from Australia. Regular flights also ply between Antarctica and the South American countries. The cold climate of the place dictates the use of special aircraft to be used during Antarctica travel. The pilots manning the aircrafts for Antarctic travel are also specially trained to operate under hostile climatic conditions. The planes land on snowbound and ice paved runways. Plane landings are allowed only during the daylight season. The daylight season is the summer season. The summer season starts from October and continues until the month of March. The notable plane runways include the Williams Field, Annual Sea-Ice Runway and the Pegasus Blue-Ice Runway.
Special ships are also employed for ferrying passengers destined to travel to Antarctica. The sea going vessels are specially constructed to travel within Antarctica region. The Antarctica bound ships are usually ice strengthened to cope with the effect of the icebergs. Smaller sea-ships may go to places that could not be reached by larger ocean liners.
