Amsterdam is a city with several indoor and outdoor activities that has to be explored. It has a rich history of sports. It has also served host to various sports events.
Football: The Netherlands has a famous football team called Ajax. The team plays in the Amsterdam soil on Saturdays and Sunday evenings during August to May. Ajax is the winner of European Cup four times.
Korfball: It is a variation of basketball. The word 'korf' in korfball means basket. Korfball, which was initially an Amsterdam school activity, has later been developed into an international sport. It is the only mixed team sport and is now played in other countries also.
Jogging in Vondelpark: During spring season, people of Amsterdam can be seen out in the mornings for a stroll or a jog. The Vondelpark, the oldest and largest municipal park in the city is chosen as the apt place for jogging. People head to Amsterdamse Bos for a serious leg-stretch.
Cycling: The city has provided about 400 km of bike paths for the Amsterdammers who love cycling. Cycles also known as bikes can be hired in the city, which is bicycle friendly. People prefer to travel through the city on a bicycle as it has narrow streets.
Ice Skating: When the snow covers the canals of Amsterdam, it is the time for the locals to go out for skating, their favorite snow sport. Besides the frozen canals, the people also used Museumplein pond for skating. If the winter is away, Amsterdammers try the Jaap Edenbaan indoor and outdoor rinks.
Bungee Jumping: It is another favorite sport of the people in Amsterdam. An 80-m freefall from the place near Central Station gives a memorable experience to the people. Usually people involve in this sport during the weekends of May to June and September from noon to 8pm. In July and August people go out for bungee jumping on Wednesdays to Sundays from noon to midnight.
